Home again!

We are HOME! Home is a great place to be! :) We actually got home Friday afternoon at about 3:30 or so. J is doing fairly well. He is sitting up for longer periods of time now. He is still really weak in his back muscles, which is understandable considering what they did to him! He has some weakness in his hips so getting up and down and taking stairs is a little challenging. He uses a walker to get around. He can manage getting around the house ok by himself as long as he doesn't try the stairs by himself. We did manage to make it out for his Mom's 60th birthday party for a little while yesterday. It is a little nerve wracking for me because I am afraid that he is going to fall and he could really damage his back muscles if he fell. For those of you who don't know, my husband is also not a small person. He is about 6 feet tall and around 300 pounds. He lost quite a bit of weight over his hospital stay. You can really see it in his face. Though having lost weight is probably good for him, I wouldn't recommend this method to anyone!

If you are curious as to what they did to him here is a link to a description of they type of surgery he had. This description shows only one vertebrae done, but they did 3 on J. They did the 12th thoracic through the second lumbar vertebrae on J. He has about an 8 inch incision scar and had about 30-35 stitches or so.

I got quite a bit of work done on my odd little triangular pink crochet blanket while he was in the hospital. Hopefully I can get back into crafting a bit now that he is on the mend. I had to temorarily give up my desk in my craft room where my sewing machine is so that J could sit at his laptop computer and play games for a while since stairs are a bit much right now. LOL Anyone who knows J knows that that is a sure sign that he is on the mend! :)
