Randomness - Finish It Up Friday

My niece, Claire is turning twelve in a few days.  She requested a drawstring backpack for her birthday this year.  Sniff... Sniff... I think she might be done with the fun little dresses... They grow up way too fast. I kind of followed this tutorial and finished this up this week to mail off to her.  I did change the dimensions slightly since this is going to a 12 year old and not a toddler.   It was nice to use up a couple of odds and ends I had lying around, too.  The rickrack was the perfect size and color, I had just a little bit of green already cut ruffle size and had a piece of turquoise polka dot just the right size and color, too.  I even had the zipper in my stash! All in all a pretty easy little project.  

I also finished up these blocks to send to Margaret's Hope Chest for their "A Mother's Hope" project.  There is still time if anyone else wants to join in.  These quilts will go to women who are in a program to help them with post-partum depression.

On a sad note, I received word that my father passed away early this morning.  I will be dealing with family matters for the next several days, I'm sure, so I will not be around blogland for a little while.

I also finished Lexi's short set for her birthday. In my haste to get it finished and wrapped, I forgot to get a picture of it. I do have one of her opening it. The shorts are just plain elastic waist shorts and the top is modeled after this one. She is a dog lover and the fabric was red with brown puppies and light blue dog bones. I thought the fabric was really cute. She seemed to like it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get a picture of her in it, LOL. We celebrated at Space Aliens restaurant. Sort of a high end, alien themed Chuck E. Cheese. She turned 7 this year, notice the jersey?


I am working on an outfit to put in the Pfaff store here in town soon. It is almost finished. The top is done, and the pants are almost there. I need to do the ruffles at the cuffs and the casing and elastic at the waist. Then it will be done. Hopefully I'll have pictures of this one tomorrow or this weekend. I sure wish I had someone to model these things when I get them done. I would really love to get some good pictures so that people can see the fit and how they look on someone. I'd try to get Lexi, but I don't think she'd be interested. She isn't into girly ruffles and stuff. She'd probably hate it, lol.

A muumuu for Mady-mu....

I finished Mady's dress for her birthday. I really like how it turned out, but it does have a certain muumuu-like quality about it. I think its the tiers. LOL I am still planning on making some bloomers to go under it.

Lots of twirl power in this dress, too. Just the thing for a 4 year old girl. :) The bottom tier is approximately 175 inches around. I took the width of the fabric and cut 4 strips. I didn't measure it, I just cut it.




I joined Amanda in her effort to finish up projects that were nearing completion. So far I have only finished one thing. I started this circle skirt a while back for Etsy. It's a girls size 8. I drafted everything about the pattern from scratch, and I have to say that I am very pleased with the results. I am thinking about redrafting the pattern in different sizes so I can make them for Etsy. I have some fun ladybug fabric in green, pink and yellow that I think will be the next one.



And here is the pillowcase dress I finished a little while back for Etsy. I just got around to getting pictures of it. Now, just to find time to do the listings.....



And finally I thought I'd add this picture because I thought it was funny. We have ducks nesting in the neighbor's yard, and this little guy was wandering around our front yard the other day. Aeris was mezmerized.

Indecisive...

I can't decide what to do for Lexi, Mady and Claire's birthdays this year. I will probably do the same for all three, or maybe something different for Lexi, but Mady and Claire's will probably be very similar since they are sisters. They all already have minky blankets, and several outfits. Lexi has a stuffed dog and a t-shirt from Christmas. I had thought about stuffed kitties for Mady and Claire. Lexi, is NOT a girly girl, so anything "girly" doesn't work for her. Her big thing is dogs. She loves dogs. She also kind of likes her dad's race car. She kind of likes to draw and stuff so I thought about this or this. I just don't know. For some reason they are getting harder to figure things out for, but I need to get myself together pretty soon, because one has a birthday in April, and one at the beginning of May. Claire isn't until October, so I have some time there, at least.
Anybody got any ideas? Mady will be 4, Alexa and Claire will both be 7 this year.
